Shamwari Hilltop Retreat is the dreamscape of a Southern African adventurer (your host – Helena) who embraced an opportunity and the many challenges of the undiscovered rustic charm of the north-eastern Algarve foothills to realise a leisure sanctuary.

Shamwari Hilltop Retreat was created uniquely and in harmony with nature.

Shamwari Hilltop Retreat is situated near Monte Vascao, a small typical Portuguese village, just 7km from Alcoutim and 4km from the IC27, with tarred road access to the entrance. Shamwari Hilltop Retreat is a Tourism Portugal project and a fully licensed establishment, set on 15 acres of rural country-side and nothing but rolling hills for as far as the eye can see.

A “Rustic Retreat” nestled in “our valley of a thousand hills” in the Vascao/Guadiana River Valley with fantastic views and great hiking and mountain biking tracks. Spectacular sunsets and dazzling Night Skies. The sunny beaches of Vila Real St Antonio and Monto Gordo are 25mins south down the IC27.

The philosophy of Shamwari Hilltop Retreat encourages respect for each other, the planet and the environment and taking care not to contaminate the land with chemicals and oils, and by repurposing and recycling where possible.
