WALKING & HIKING TRAILS
With 17 registered national walks in the surrounding area from Shamwari, join a guided tour or go solo around the village of Monte Vascao, Cortes Perreiras, Afonse Vincente, all the way along Vascao River or the Guadiana River to Alcoutim and beyond.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
There are miles of surrounding roads and tracks suitable for cycling and mountain biking – some not for the faint hearted. Cycles can be hired from ‘Fun River’ in Alcoutim.
STAR-GAZING
The area is noted as one of the world’s best locations for Stargazing and a world registered Night Sky is a mere 5 km away. Shamwari enjoys spectacular views of our sparkling universe. The Milky Way sweeps majestically overhead – even to the naked eye. Calling all astrophotographers, ” The pros” tells us that we are #3 rating on Bortle ‘s Dark – Sky Scale.
ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES
The Guadiana River separates Portugal from Spain, with amazing views of both countries. There are several extreme sports to do on the river including the Worlds only cross border zipline that takes you from Spain to Portugal over the river Guadiana.
